Great news for world models and spatial-intelligence.

AMD agreed to buy Dr. Fei-Fei Li's World Labs for ~$8.2B in stock, installing Li as chief scientist.

Thats ~64% above the $5B valuation talk of World Lab for a $1B February round, which AMD and Nvidia both joined.

World Labs gets the computing power and engineering depth its growing model research now demands, while AMD gains about 70 researchers building models for robotics and 3D simulation, giving it early insight into those workloads so it can shape future chips and systems around them.

Strategically, AMD can also offer customers its own AI models alongside hardware, strengthening its data center pitch against its larger rival, and paying in stock that has nearly tripled this year makes the price cost under 1% of the company.

Because AMD shares have nearly tripled this year to about $1T in value, paying in stock costs it under 1% of the company.

The purchase also mirrors Nvidia's habit of bundling models and services with chips.
